From the PresidentBy Ronald L. Weiss, MD, President, American Pathology Foundation the incoming President ofthe American Pathology Foundation,I want to take this oppor- tunity to thank Karl Proppe for his leadership ofthe APF over the past two years.I have learned a great deal about deliberative and reasoned leadership from Karl.I am,and the APF is as a whole, deeply indebted to Karl for using this style ofhis to not only seek consensus on some very challenging issues that we have faced in pathology and in our organization, but to force Òout ofthe boxÓthinking about solutions.Karl,Luke Perkocha, who ably led before him,and Gerry Hanson, as Secretary-Treasurer,have established an initial roadmap to reaching an re-invig- orated APF.Karl remains on the Board as Past-President providing continued continuity, while Luke has rotated offthe Board and Gerry has begun his transi- tion out ofthe role ofSecretary-Treasurer,a position that he brought a keen sense offiscal prudence and necessary oversight to.With their continued help and advice I can do my best, together with the rest ofour Board ofpathologists and practice managers,to follow this path already blazed. We are also fortunate to have a very capable management team, led by Brad Lund and Melissa Lord-Toof,as partners in this endeavor. As independent-minded practitioners ofpathology,we members ofthe APF face many challenges both individually and as an organization. The practice ofpathol- ogy continues to evolve, driven by technologic advances,by economics and by health policy changes at multiple levels.Innovations in medical and information technology have led to improvements in the delivery ofhealth WELCOME TO THE APF|THE MANAGEMENT ASSOCIATION FOR PATHOLOGYinsideTHISISSUEAPF News & EventsThe Death of Simplicity… or How Your Managed Care Contracts Killed Your Revenue Staying in the Game:Operating Your Practice As a Healthcare BusinessPathology Takes Another Pay CutWither Healthcare Reform: Is There a Will and the Way?
