In the article they discuss the twins who had their genomes modified to be resistant to HIV . They mention to do this they “deleted” the CCR5 gene. They also state in the other article that the CCR5 gene was modified in the same way that can potentially enhance brain functionality. It wasn’t clear in the article that you can delete the CCR5 gene while still being able to modify it. Many people will be confused by this who are not familiar with the different types of mutations that can occur. Both the deletion and a modification can exist because when you “delete” the gene, it doesn’t always mean that you remove it in its entirety.
